FAQ
What can I do with my surplus seeds?
If you have produced more PlantPets seeds than you wish to plant and grow yourself, there are several things you can do with them:
- You can put surplus seeds up for sale or give them to friends. The PlantPets Stats HUD can help by suggesting base prices for seeds.
- You can plant 10 seeds and then exchange 10 growing PlantPets for breeder tools by using a Mission object. Missions are available at the PlantPets Main Store and can be exchanged for one of the following:
- One-week Water Droplet – waters the owner's PlantPets automatically.
- Booster Pack – speeds up baby-seed production. With boosters, a PlantPet can produce a seed every 5–6 days.
- Magic Booster – reactivates a vintage PlantPet so it can produce another set of seeds depending on its status: common (7 seeds or 14 if elite), seasonal (11 or 22 if elite), rare (14 or 28 if elite), or limited (77 or 154 if elite).
- Older limited, rare, or seasonal PlantPets seeds – a good option for collectors looking for older releases.
- Eleusis *Roseus*
- Lilac Bush *Fiera*
- Hot Lips *Utopia*
What is a vintage plantpet?
A vintage PlantPet is a PlantPet that has produced all its seeds and can no longer give seeds. Some very old PlantPets are vintage as soon as they are planted. They are clearly marked as vintage in the PlantPets Catalog.
This makes them especially rare and difficult to breed. Any other PlantPet will also become vintage after all its seeds have been collected. A vintage PlantPet can be made breedable again by applying a magic booster, available at the PlantPets Main Store.
I planted a seed but did not receive the potted plant. My seed says Planted Seed above it. What should I do?
If the seed looks like a brown acorn and says Planted Seed above it, it is an old seed. These seeds were discontinued in May 2019, and breeders were asked to update them.
Please note that, as of 2023, these old seeds are no longer supported. Please contact the avatar who sold the seed and ask them for a refund.
My plantpet did not give me a seed when I typed give baby in the chat.
You need to apply two updates to your growing PlantPets, one after the other, before collecting any seeds. The first update is from 2019, and the second is from 2021.
Step 1. Collect the robot for the 2019 update from the PlantPets Main Store. Rez it on your land and switch it on. One robot will update all your PlantPets in the region. Please follow the instructions at plantpets.dejapi.com/?q=node/10911. Please note that seeds from before May 2019 are no longer updatable or usable.
Step 2. After completing the first update, follow the instructions at plantpets.dejapi.com/?q=node/10919 to update your growing plants to version 3.088 or higher.
My plantpet is unhealthy or unhappy. What should I do?
To help your PlantPet recover its health, it must remain happy for a long period of time. If it has been unhealthy for a long time, it will need to stay happy for even longer to recover fully.
To keep it happy:
- When you are around the PlantPet, set it to Fast speed and make sure it is always watered above 40%.
- Before you go away or log off, water it to 100% and leave it on Regular speed.
How much does it cost to take care of a plantpet?
Taking care of PlantPets can be free. They only need water to stay happy and healthy, and watering is done simply by pressing a menu button.
When moisture drops below 40%, happiness starts to fall. Once happiness drops below 40%, health also begins to fall. PlantPets do not die when left dry, but if either happiness or health falls below 50%, they stop counting down the days to the next baby seed until both return to at least 50%.
On Regular speed, it takes at least seven days for moisture to drop from 100% to 40%, so watering once a week, or even once every ten days, is usually enough to keep them breeding.
If you will be away from Second Life for an extended period, you can purchase a droplet that waters your PlantPets automatically for a certain time.
How many prims is a plantpet?
All PlantPets have a pot or planter that is typically 2–5 LI. All plant parts are temp-rezzed by the pot. Mesh plant parts are typically below 10 LI, although some plants are up to 30 LI. These are counted like any permanent prims on your land.
For sculpt PlantPets, usually older PlantPets, the temp-rezzed prims will appear as prims owned by you on your land, but they are not subtracted from the prim allowance on your land.
There is also a limit on the number of temporary prims you can have on your land. This limit is determined by the formula on the Second Life Wiki: wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/PRIM_TEMP_ON_REZ.
I get a message that my plantpet cannot rez because my sim is full. There are plenty of prims available. What is wrong?
All PlantPets have a pot consisting of 2–5 permanent prims. All plant parts are temporary prims rezzed by the pot. Temporary prims are counted separately from permanent prims.
So it is possible to have plenty of permanent prims available on your land and still reach the temporary-prim limit. If that happens, you can do one of the following:
- Press the Regrow button on PlantPets that are high LI. This resets their growth only; all other parameters, including the days to the next baby seed, remain the same. Most PlantPets are significantly lower LI at earlier growth stages.
- Press the Hide button on some PlantPets to stop the temp-rez. Please note that hidden PlantPets take 25% longer to produce a seed, because you can breed far more hidden PlantPets than fully shown ones on the same land.
Can I take my plantpet to inventory? Can it die while in my inventory?
Yes, you can take your PlantPet to inventory. Please take only the pot. You can delete the rezzed plant parts or simply let them disappear automatically within one minute. The next time you rez the pot, it will rez the plant parts automatically within one minute.
While in inventory, your PlantPet cannot die. It is paused. The next time you rez the pot, it resumes its functions.
How do I move my plantpet?
Please move only the pot. The plant will automatically follow within one minute.
What do boosters do?
A PlantPet can produce one baby seed every 52 days if it is kept at least 50% happy and 50% healthy. If either happiness or health falls below 50%, it stops counting down the days to the next baby seed until both return to at least 50%.
Regardless of current happiness or health, the time needed to produce the next baby seed can be reduced by applying a booster. Boosters are available at the PlantPets Main Store. Elite PlantPets also give boosters each time you collect a seed from them.
One unit of booster equals one day of reduction. A booster may have a capacity of one or more units. When applied to a PlantPet, all units are applied at once and the days to the next baby seed are reduced accordingly. However, only one booster, regardless of capacity, can be applied within 24 hours.
To apply a booster, rez it near your PlantPets, check Boost in the PlantPet menu, and then touch the booster to activate it. The booster will apply itself and delete itself afterwards. If you have enabled Boost on multiple PlantPets, the booster will be applied to one of them at random.
Do I have to buy boosters for my plantpet?
No. To keep your PlantPet alive and breeding, you only need to keep it at least 50% happy and at least 50% healthy by making sure it stays watered above 40%.
My plantpet is stuck and does not count down the days. What is wrong?
Your PlantPet must be at least 50% happy and at least 50% healthy in order to count down the days to the next baby seed. Make sure both conditions are met. If they are not, please see the answer above for My plantpet is unhealthy or unhappy. What should I do?
My plantpets stopped rezzing and counting down the days to baby seeds. How can I fix them?
Please contact customer support. You will be given an object that restores the scripts in your PlantPet while keeping all its parameters except the growth percentage.
When this happens, the scripts in the PlantPet have most likely become corrupted. Do not reset the script in your PlantPet. Resetting the script kills the PlantPet.
How do Xcite!-compatible plantpets work?
Xcite!-compatible PlantPets become sensitive only when they are at least 70% happy. They react when an avatar wearing Xcite! genitalia touches the plant parts.
In addition, they scan for avatars wearing Xcite! genitalia around them every five minutes and raise the excitement of the first avatar they find.
Can I sell my seeds? At what price?
Yes, you are free to sell your seeds at any price. Please note that some markets may impose a minimum price on products you put on sale.
PlantPets offers the set4sale system, which packs seeds in boxes for sale together with their catalogue posters, one seed per box. Posters are also sold separately if you wish to use them in vendors for multiple seeds.
Here are some guidelines on how to set the price of a seed. You can use the following formula:
where:
- base_price is L$350 for common PlantPets, L$550 for seasonal PlantPets, and L$980 or L$1925 for limited PlantPets.
- e is 1.5 for elite PlantPets and 1 for all others.
- v is 1 for vintage PlantPets and 0 for the rest.
- p is the percentage of seeds of this PlantPet out of all PlantPets seeds collected in the last 65 days.
For common PlantPets that are neither elite nor vintage, the recommended price is capped at L$250.
